Fundraising Concert - A Resounding Success

The Aloha Medical Mission's Four Doctors, a Patient & an Idol benefit concert hit all the right notes with AMM doctors and "American Idol" Jasmine Trias taking center stage.
The concert was held on September 24, 2005 at the Neal Blaisdell Concert Hall to help raise funds for AMM's goodwill programs and services.  It was a memorable night for the audience and the concert's many organizers and donors.

The event opened with a slide show presentation of AMM's overseas missions. As the audience viewed moving images on-screen, Dr. Jorge G. Camara took to the piano to play Beethoven's stirring "Moonlight Sonata."  The outstanding performance was followed by Dr. Timothy Lee who played a heartfelt rendition of "Georgia on My Mind," as a tribute to the victims of Hurricane Katrina.  Dr. Reuben Guerrero delighted the audience with a piece from de Leone.  Concluding the doctors' piano concert was a powerful performance by Dr. Brad Wong who played Rachmaninoff .

Piano concert organizers honored Dr. Ramon K. Sy, whose leadership and vision inspired the creation and continued success of AMM.  Dr. Sy was presented with an award in appreciation of his dedication of helping underserved communities in Hawaii and abroad.

Chris Cerna, the "Patient," wowed the audience with his gifted performance at the keyboard.  Chris also displayed his talent for arranging and composing music, playing a beautifully arranged medley of songs from "Beauty and the Beast," and a jazz number from his latest CD.  His charming and witty monologue had the audience rolling in their seats, after which he brought the audience into his world when he requested everyone to close their eyes as he played "Looking Through the Eyes of Love."

The concert's special guest performer and concert draw was Hawaii's "American Idol," the lovely Jasmine Trias, who captivated the audience with her voice and piano skill. Jasmine dedicated "Inseparable," a song she sang to her fans for their support when she was a contestant on "American Idol."  The "Patient" accompanied the "Idol" in the Whitney Houston hit, "I Will Always Love You."  The audience was delighted with her voice and charisma.

AMM would like to thank the many donors and supporters for their generosity and hard efforts for making Four Doctors, a Patient & an Idol such a success.    Special thanks to Dr. Ramon K. Sy and Mrs. Elizabeth Sy; Dr. Jorge G. Camara; concert emcee Ms. Kim Gennaula of KGMB 9; Ms. Jasmine Trias; Lloyd Kendall for the concert's publicity; Steve Sanders of Sanders Piano; Mrs. Greta Pecson for organizing the post-concert reception; the concert planning committee; AMM board members and office staff; Tim Llena for the concert photos; the many volunteers; and our principal sponsors - American Savings Bank (HEI), the Consuelo Alger Foundation, Grace Pacific Corporation, Hawaiian Electric Industries, Inc. & HMSA.
