OVERSEAS MISSIONS
A. No. AMM, as a U.S. tax-exempt organization (NGO), is not affiliated with any religion or government.
A. AMM seeks certified medical and dental professionals for its missions abroad and at our Clinic in Hawaii. Opportunities for lay people, for example, those currently studying medicine or undergoing their residencies, are available at our Honolulu Clinic.
A. We are in great need of Internal Medicine, Family Care, Pediatricians, General and Plastic Surgeons, Dermatologists, Anesthesiologists, etc.
A. All overseas mission volunteers, lay people excepted, must have completed their professional training and have currently valid professional licenses from their country, state, or province. Medical or dental volunteers at our Clinic in Honolulu must have valid Hawaii licenses.
A. Yes. They are ideal candidates for our humanitarian work with their experience and schedule flexibility. We only require that applicants possess a current medical license.
A. All expenses, i.e. airfare, hotel accommodations, meals and other travel expenses for oversea medical missions, are the responsibility of the mission volunteer. Q. How much does the average overseas mission cost a volunteer? A. Over the years, the average has come to $1,500 (U.S.) per trip, including room and board.
A. AMM's missions abroad are 10-15 days in length, including travel time.
A. Yes. We always work together with local doctors and nurses. It is a good way to share expertise and techniques between the two groups as well as for American and other overseas volunteers to get to know colleagues from the host country. Sometimes, in fact, we have missions specifically set up as training missions
A. AMM uses an official travel agent to arrange flights and accommodations.
A. We initiate medical missions by invitation. Aloha Medical Mission will assess the need, location, security, and cooperation of the local government, medical community, and other NGO's (non-governmental agencies) before a decision is made.
A. Complete the appropriate application forms on this website pertaining to your occupation - doctor, nurse, or lay person/other. You must indicate on the form which mission you want to participate in.
A. We post this information as it becomes available on this website under "Upcoming Missions." People interested in current or upcoming volunteer opportunities at AMM's Honolulu Clinic should call the Medical Director, Jerry Allison, M.D. at (808) 841-9845 or email him at jallison@alohamedicalmission.org.
A. Our Volunteer and Credential Committee reviews and selects prospective applicants in relation to the need of the specific mission(s) and the qualifications of each volunteer. The same Committee reviews applicants who volunteer to work at our Clinics.
A. We accept donations of unexpired medication, small medical supplies, and equipment from medical professionals, companies, and institutions only. We cannot accept narcotics/controlled substances, medication prescribed to an indvidual, expired meds, or open meds. Also, due to space constraints, we are unable to accept donations of large equipment (exam tables, OR tables, wheelchairs, walkers, and crutches).
A. Through a combination of foundation grants, individual and corporate donations. CLINICQ. How do I qualify to get medical or dental services at your Clinic in Honolulu? A. Those who qualify are people who are unemployed, uninsured, have no or low income, and are not under any government programs.
A. Our Clinic is open from Monday through Friday, 4:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. Our Dental Clinic hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 8:00 A.M.-4:00 P.M. and Thursdays, 8:00 A.M.-12:00 P.M. For volunteer dentist hours, please contact the Clinic at 841-4489.
A. We prefer you make an appointment to see a physician or dentist as we are unable to accommodate walk-in patients. Call (808) 841-4489.
