Aloha Medical Mission volunteers spent five hours at the Mark Glen Auction’s Sand Island warehouse on Saturday, Nov. 20, loading a 40-foot container with over $200,000 worth of medical equipment and supplies for shipment to Bacolod City, Philippines, for distribution to hospitals and clinics in the area.
The inventory, collected by hardworking volunteers, included 14 hospital beds, seven dental chairs, six exam tables, five anesthesia machines and two anesthesia monitors, three ventilators, one portable X-ray machines, one podiatry X-ray machine, and a large clinic X-ray machine donated by Honolulu internist Dr. John Magauran.
Many hospitals, companies and individuals made this possible. Among the many were Stan Togikawa, executive director of the Shiraki Foundation, who paid more than $8,000 for shipping; Diamond Head Self Storage, who first allowed us to store the donations at their facility; Roger Jensen and Mark Glen of Mark Glen Auctions, who collected and eventually stored the donations at their warehouse; and Rep. Glenn Wakai, founder of Reach Out Pacific (REPAC), who contributed supplies, coordinated transportation and arranged free shipping through Matson to Micronesia.
